This recipe showcases how to prepare a tender and flavorful tri tip roast using two cooking methods: grilling and oven-roasting. With minimal effort, you’ll create a stunning centerpiece that boasts a delicious crust and juicy interior. The marinade enhances the natural flavors of the beef, making every bite unforgettable. Whether served sliced on a platter or in hearty sandwiches, this versatile dish is sure to impress your guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2.5 lb tri tip roast
  • 1.5 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tbsp Lawry's seasoning salt
  • 1.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp parsley (dried or fresh)
  • 0.25 cup olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all dry seasonings (garlic salt, Lawry's seasoning salt, kosher salt, black pepper, sugar, garlic powder, and parsley). Whisk until well mixed.
  2. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the tri tip roast and drizzle with olive oil; massage into the meat. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. For grilling: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Sear tri tip for 4-5 minutes on each side until a crust forms. Then reduce heat to medium and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes until it reaches an internal temperature of 135°F (medium-rare). Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  4. For oven-roasting: Preheat your oven to 425°F. Roast tri tip in a pan for about 25 minutes or until it reaches an internal temperature of 135°F (medium-rare). Rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
