Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (frozen)
- 2/3 cup cold buttermilk
- 1 large egg (separated)
- 3/4 cup finely chopped ham
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir in chives and cheese.
- Grate frozen butter into the dry mixture and mix until crumbly.
- In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg yolk. Add to the flour mixture along with chopped ham and stir until combined.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface; gently form into an 8-inch disc. Cut into wedges or drop spoonfuls onto the baking sheet.
- Brush tops with egg white mixed with buttermilk; chill for 15 minutes before baking.
- Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden brown.
