  • 3 lbs boneless pork shoulder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing rice wine
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tsp molasses
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Five spice powder
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • Cilantro leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut the pork shoulder into two long strips.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the marinade ingredients until smooth.
  3. Rub the marinade over the pork and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 500°F. Place pork on a metal rack over a baking sheet lined with foil.
  5. Roast uncovered for 25 minutes, then turn and roast an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Baste the pork every 10 minutes until cooked through and caramelized (about 60 minutes total).
  7. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
